Want to further your understanding of the Runes? In an open and eclectic celebration of these Spiritual tools, we will be gathering twice a month to discuss and meditate using Diana Paxson’s book ‘Taking Up the Runes’.
You will need…
* Taking Up the Runes by Diana Paxson
* A set of Runes
* Writing materials.. notebook, pen/pencil, red pen/marker
* 3x5 index cards
* commitment
We will meet the first and third Monday of each month at 7pm in the River Hall. There will be sixteen meetings in all, which means that your commitment would run through October. The Runes are not necessarily complicated, but to gain a deeper understanding of their relationship to each other (and to you), I recommend that you attend each class. The gatherings will begin with a discussion on our own interpretations, and end with a meditation from Paxson’s book. You will be asked to bring Ritual tools, representations of Gods and food items for certain Rituals and meditations.
You will be expected to read from the book, work with the Runes and interpret their meanings on your own, in between meetings, so that you can participate in the discussions. How you ‘work’ with the Runes is up to you. Whatever other resources you draw information or guidance from is also up to you.
At the first gathering, we will discuss the schedule of gatherings and your previous experience with the Runes. We will also discuss the possibility of making, blessing and reading our own Runes at additional gatherings. It is recommended that you skim through the book (both sections) to get an idea of the structure of future gatherings and to familiarize yourself with Paxson’s style.
A donation of $5 per gathering is recommended but other contributions are certainly welcome.. Think toilet paper, incense, essential oils, dish detergent and an hour spent weeding in the Sanctuary. Your active participation and contributions to the discussion are, of course, the best gift so join us even if you are not able to give more than that.
I have been working with the Runes for several years, but please know that I am not a Rune Master of any sort. I enjoy the conversation and need to further my relationship with the Runes just as much as you do. We will be teaching each other. I may lead the gathering, direct the discussion back around to the point and read the meditations but each of us has something to learn. Also of note, in case you didn’t already know, I am not Asatru. I am a Hodge-podge kitchen pot Witch and approach the Runes from my own perspective. I will draw from Neo-Pagan and Wiccan resources, as well as Norse and WiccAtru. I believe that like any decent Spiritual practice, any understanding and utilization of the Runes is a living, ever evolving energy that must be allowed to grow and manifest in a manner of which you will comprehend.
Any and all concerns or questions can either be addressed at the first meeting on March 4th or can be emailed to the Council . Blessings!

Next Class on the 18th
What do I need to do to get caught up with you all? I am hoping that I will not have anymore missed classes. Cherie
